Dental Crowns
Restore and Protect Your Smile with Confidence
At Garden Dental Studio, we understand that a strong, beautiful smile is essential to your health and your confidence. When a tooth is weakened, damaged, or worn down, a dental crown can restore its strength, function, and appearance—giving you back your healthy, natural-looking smile.
Dental crowns, sometimes called “caps,” are custom-made restorations that cover the entire visible portion of a tooth. Whether you need to protect a tooth after root canal therapy, fix a cracked or chipped tooth, or improve the look of a misshapen tooth, crowns offer a durable, long-lasting solution that blends perfectly with your natural teeth.
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are crafted from strong, durable materials such as porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, metal, or a combination of these.
Dental crowns may be recommended to:
- Protect a weakened or cracked tooth from further damage
- Restore a tooth that has a large filling and little natural structure remaining
- Cover and support a tooth after a root canal
- Restore a broken or severely worn-down tooth
- Improve the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth
- Anchor a dental bridge in place
- Complete a dental implant restoration
The Dental Crown Process
Getting a dental crown typically takes two visits:
First Visit – Preparation:
- The tooth is carefully reshaped to make room for the crown.
- We take detailed impressions or digital scans of your teeth to ensure a perfect fit.
- A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being custom-made.
- The temporary crown is removed, and the permanent crown is placed.
- We check the fit, color, and bite before permanently bonding the crown to the tooth.
Types of Crowns We Offer
Depending on your needs, we may recommend different types of crowns, including:
- Porcelain Crowns: Highly aesthetic and ideal for front teeth.
- Zirconia Crowns: Extremely strong and resistant to wear, perfect for back teeth.
- Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crowns: A balance between strength and a natural look.
- All-Metal Crowns: Very durable, often used for molars where strength is the priority.
Caring for Your Dental Crown
Dental crowns are built to last, but proper care is essential to maximize their lifespan. Here’s how to keep your crown—and the tooth underneath—healthy:
- Brush and floss daily, paying special attention to the area around the crown.
- Avoid chewing on hard objects like ice or pens.
- Visit us regularly for professional cleanings and exams to monitor the crown and your overall oral health.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental care, your crown can last 10–15 years or even longer.
