Save Your Natural Tooth with Comfortable, Expert Care

What Is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure designed to treat infection or inflammation inside a tooth. Each tooth contains a soft tissue center called the pulp, which houses nerves and blood vessels. When this pulp becomes infected or damaged—due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma—it can cause severe pain and, if left untreated, lead to tooth loss or the spread of infection.
During a root canal, we carefully remove the damaged pulp, clean and disinfect the inside of the tooth, and then fill and seal it to prevent further problems. The tooth is typically restored with a crown afterward for strength and protection.
Root canal therapy allows you to keep your natural tooth and avoid the need for extraction.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
- Severe toothache pain, especially when chewing or applying pressure
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, even after the source is removed
- Darkening or discoloration of the tooth
- Swelling, tenderness, or a bump on the gums near the tooth
- A cracked or chipped tooth that leads to infection
What Happens During Root Canal Therapy?
A root canal is typically completed in one or two visits, depending on the condition of your tooth:
- Diagnosis and Preparation:
We begin with a thorough exam and digital X-rays to assess the extent of the infection. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area completely. - Removing the Infected Tissue:
We create a small opening in the tooth to access the pulp. The infected or damaged tissue is gently removed. - Cleaning and Sealing:
The inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and shaped. We then fill the root canals with a biocompatible material to seal them. - Restoring the Tooth:
In most cases, a crown is placed on the treated tooth to restore its strength, function, and appearance.
- Diagnosis and Preparation:
Our team focuses on making the entire process comfortable and stress-free, ensuring you leave our office feeling relieved and confident.
Recovery and Aftercare
- To protect your restored tooth:
- Avoid chewing hard foods on the treated tooth until it’s fully restored.
- Continue practicing good oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing.
- Attend follow-up appointments to monitor healing and place your final crown if needed.
